Finn Harps will attempt to get their Premier Division survival mission back on track tomorrow night against Waterford Utd at the RSC (kick-off 7.45). Results in the past fortnight, has seen Ollie Horgan’s men drop back to the bottom of the table as UCD have picked up seven points from their last three including a win over Harps at the Belfield Bowl.
Horgan is fully aware of what is at stake at the RSC and says his players have to be strong mentally as well as physically to get something from tomorrow night’s game. “We didn’t have a game last weekend and lost to UCD the previous Friday night at Belfield. That performance wasn’t good enough against a team that was short players. In saying that we failed to take three very good chances and paid a very heavy price by not even getting a draw from the game. But, UCD have strengthened since and Jack Keaney has come in from Sligo Rovers with others. They drew at the Brandywell and had a great win over Bohs on Monday night. We’re now three points behind but all our lads can do is focus on getting a result against Waterford. That’s going to take strong characters with courage to step up and go for it at the RSC. Waterford might be third from bottom of the Premier but they are 10 points ahead of us and seven in front of UCD. Alan Reynolds will be putting a serious push on his players to get the win against us tomorrow night” Horgan said.
Bottom side Harps are now three points behind UCD who have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. So Friday night is another really big game where Horgan will be hoping that his players can rise to the occasion and give the club a boost ahead of two home matches against Derry City and Bohemians. Harps and Waterford have met twice already this season with a win each. Back at the end of March, Horgan’s men lost 4-0 at the RSC in a game where the visitors played with 10 men from the 26th minute following Mark Coyle’s red card. In the middle of May, Harps got a 3-2 win over Waterford at Finn Park.
Michael Gallagher and Ciaran Gallagher are joined on the injury list by striker Nathan Boyle while Jacob Borg is doubtful for tomorrow night’s match at the RSC.
