Donegal League midfielder Gareth Harkin may be in the twilight of his playing days, but he would dearly love to play his part in this season’s Oscar Traynor Cup adventure.
Commenting after their defeat of the Inishowen League at Diamond Park, Ballyare, on Sunday – a game in which he scored – the 36-year-old sees no reason why they cannot really push for this piece of silverware.
“It’s been a long time since Donegal won it and I would love to do it at my age as the years are ticking on now,” he stated. “Hopefully we can do something this year and with the group of lads that we have and the coaching staff it would be great for everyone.
Harkin, whose clubs have included Finn Harps, Derry City, Coleraine, and Limavady, as well as present club Bonagee United, continued: “We’re into the next stage now and really looking forward to it. Donegal got to the semi-final last year and we will be looking to a step further. We have some good lads in there and a lot of experience. We will see what the draw gives us.”
