Midfielder Gareth Harkin could be back in contention for a place in the Finn Harps side tonight as Ollie Horgan’s team tries to get back on track following a series of poor results.

With FAI Cup action last weekend, Harps had a week to recover from that smarting derby day defeat against Derry City, but while the games are coming thick and fast again now, there are no easy ones on the horizon.

Shamrock Rovers are chasing a European spot and sit in fourth place in the table while Harps have been sliding down the pecking order again in recent weeks and currently lie third from bottom.

“It’s a massive game, but they all are. Shamrock Rovers are a fantastic side. Myself and Paul Hegarty watched them last week and they play great football, different now to how they played under Pat Fenlon. In all honesty we’d need to be at our best and probably still need them not to be at their best, to get anything from the game.”

In terms of preparations the Harps manager says he has been happy to get two weeks of training done again, but as usual there are injury worries.

“Damien McNulty is still out, Dave Scully is a doubt, Packie Mailey sat out a session this week but hopefully he’ll be ok to play.

“Gareth Harkin is a possibility, we don’t want to rush him back too early, so we will wait and see later in the week if we want to bring him in again. After the last game we might well be looking to change things up again, but we will see.”
