Mr Hannigan also serves as the Vice President for Cross Border Engagement at ATU, with a dedicated special engagement centre now established on the Letterkenny campus.

With an impressive career in education, leadership, and community engagement, Mr Hannigan’s wealth of experience will significantly benefit DLDC as it continues its mission to unlock the potential of individuals and strengthen communities in Donegal.

Paul Hannigan, Chair of DLDC, stated: “I am deeply honoured to take on this role. DLDC has always worked to develop and empower the communities we live and work in; in a fair, sustainable, and equitable way.

I am committed to building on this foundation and those before me to ensure that we continue to support the people of Donegal to create opportunities for growth and inclusivity.

“I look forward to leading this incredible team as we work towards a brighter future for all.”

As part of this board rotation, several new directors have also been appointed to the Board of DLDC.

These include Dean Gillespie, representing the Base Centre as a Community Representative for the East, and Rosaleen Doherty, from Independent Living, also serving as a Community Representative for the East.

Additionally, Cllr Michael McMahon and Cllr Declan Meehan have joined as Donegal County Council (DCC) members, with Edel Patton representing the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA).

Padraic Fingleton, CEO of DLDC, stated: “The board and team at DLDC are delighted to welcome Paul Hannigan as our new Chairman.

“His extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable as he guides the organisation in continuing its vital work in local development, community engagement, and social inclusion across Donegal.

Paul’s appointment comes as part of a broader board rotation, and this change comes at a critical time as DLDC seeks to strengthen its impact in supporting communities and delivering supports across our catchment area.”

“The addition of these directors brings fresh perspectives and expertise to the DLDC Board, and we are excited about the contributions they will make as we work together to build a stronger, more inclusive Donegal,” Fingleton added.
