LAST WEEKEND a group of big-hearted slimmers from Gweedore presented a cheque of over €1,000 in aid of dermatology unit at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin.

The group raised an impressive total of €1,144 by getting sponsored to lose weight by friends and family as part of the club’s Slim for Good campaign losing over 42 stone in six weeks.

The slimmers based at Ionad Naomh Padraig in Dore were inspired to raise funds in aid of the unit after hearing the story of Maghery baby, Lucy Gallagher, who suffers from a very rare skin conditions and has received great assistance from Crumlin.

Ms Ferry said: “I’m so proud of what the members in the group have achieved during the last six weeks. Supporting a worthwhile cause like Crumlin Hospital – Dermatology Unit has given everyone a special focus and real commitment to their weight loss goals.

“For many members being sponsored has been a great way to kick start their weight loss and for others it’s been a boost to help them stay on track.

“At Slimming World we pride ourselves on the care and support we give each other to lose weight – we’re known as the club with the big heart.
“So when members started talking about raising money for Crumlin Hospital – Dermatology Unit and what we could all achieve together, there really was no stopping us.

“Six weeks doesn’t sound like a long time, but in that period I’ve seen so many changes, people losing weight, their confidence increasing and feeling happier and healthier than ever.

“And the really great thing is that as they’ve lost weight the Slimming World way, they’ve achieved all this without ever going hungry or feeling deprived.

“Taking part in Slim for Good has been a great opportunity to put something back into the local community, and make a real difference to people’s weight and health at the same time.

“We’re delighted to have been able to help Crumlin Hospital – Dermatology Unit and we hope that our donations make a difference and we hope more people will come along to find out more about how they can change their life too.”
