Gritters to be deployed tomorrow morning as freezing rain warnings issued

With temperatures set to dip  again tonight and the possibility of freezing rain in some areas, Donegal County Council has confirmed that all  designated gritting routes across the county will be treated tonight and again from 6am tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Donegal have issued a safety warning. They urged road users to drive with care and assume that no road is ice free.

They reminded those driving in icy conditions, to clear your windows and mirrors before you set out and to slow down and give yourself time and space if you need to react to a loss of traction should you skid on ice.

They also advised road users to watch out for black ice, and if the road looks polished or glossy it could be black ice.

The gardaí also advised road users to use dipped headlights at all times of poor visibility to ensure you are seen by other motorists and to watch out for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and allow extra space.
