Brian Burke, Duty Engineer with DCC Winter Maintenance and Executive Enginneer with the Planning Department, said the team was ‘very satisified’ with how operations went on its first busy weekend.

“Everything went very well in accordance with our winter maintenance policy.

“We have had a couple of callouts so far this winter, but this is the first weekend where temperatures went as low as -3 degrees in some parts of the county,” said Mr Burke.

The engineer said the council is ‘well stocked up’ on salt and grit, but added that the weather conditions would determine if more was needed.

Mr Burke said indications were weather conditions would remain cold for the next ten days.

“We would advise caution on the roads and you can keep up-to-date on news from out team via Twitter, @donegalcounty council or @dccroads, and we woul also advise people to check out the winter maintenance page at www.donegalcoco.ie.”
