One of Donegal’s biggest summer festivals is taking a new eco-friendly approach.
Sea Sessions organisers have revealed that all stage equipment used this year will be powered by a renewable fuel which drastically reduces pollutants.
Festival Director Ray O’Donoghue said, “This year will see Sea Sessions use only GD+ fuel for all generators, power and machinery.
“This is made from renewable feedstocks and reduces pollutants by up to 80-90 per-cent including carbon emissions by up to 90 per-cent.”
Mr O’Donoghue was speaking following the release of the final festival line-up. The Bundoran beach party will blend rock, pop and dance to deliver something for everyone over the weekend of Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18.
Headlining on the Friday night are multi-award winning indie rockers Kasabian followed on Saturday by Becky Hill, Moncrieff and King Kong Company.
Sunday will see The Coronas take centre stage followed by a DJ set by Groove Armada.
The bill features dozens of other acts over what will be a busy few days for the holiday town.
Sea Sessions is the only festival in Ireland to incorporate music with surf, beach sports, skating, BMXing and beach Yoga.
Over the years international luminaries such as Dermot Kennedy, Primal Scream, Clean Bandit, Paul Weller, Bastille, Kelis and Basement Jaxx have performed while the get together has also helped launch the careers of bands that are now regularly selling out stadiums.
Ray O’Donoghue added, “With literally weeks to go to the festival things are really hotting up and the plans are in full swing. We’ve had nothing but positive vibes about our line-up and with these new additions we know it’s only going to get better. We’ve sold the festival out every year for the last ten years so we expect this year to be no different.”

3 Big wave surfers, the likes of Conor Maguire and Geared McDaid, regularly compete in Sea Sessions Expressions Sessions competition. It is the biggest surf competition of its kind in the country.
4 President Michael D Higgins once visited the festival way back in 2013. He loved it so much he even had a go on a BMX. It is not clear whether he performed on one of the ramps however.
5 The legendary Muddy Waters’ son Mud Morgandfield once performed at Sea Sessions. The festival director even jumped up with his guitar and played a tune with him.
