Green light for €1.2m extension at Mulroy College

THE green light has been given for a €1.2 million extension to Mulroy College in Milford.

Plans were lodged in October of this year by Anne McHugh, Chief Executive of Donegal ETB on behalf of Mulroy College.

Proposals included the installation of a two-storey modular building containing seven classrooms, three set rooms and and ancillary accommodation.

The plans also included a new section of footpath and pedestrian crossing within the school grounds, connection to existing storm and foul drainage and all associated works and site works.

Donegal County Council has granted permission subject to five conditions.

To preserve the amenities of the area, prior to commencement of development a detailed landscaping scheme must be submitted to the Planning Authority for written agreement and thereafter any such scheme as may be considered acceptable shall be implemented within first planting season following commencement of development.

The said scheme shall include substantial semi-nature broad leafed trees native to the area and shall focus on a scheme which assists with the screening of the proposal from the regional road to the north side of the site.

Any trees dying within subsequent three years shall be replaced.

A further stipulation has set out that all new signage, including car park entrance and directional signage including pedestrian links between the existing school and the car park/set down areas permitted, must be in the Irish language only, or if bilingual language is proposed, then the Irish language shall be first and shall be of an area, size and prominence that is at least equal to or greater than the area, size and prominence of other languages.

This is to comply with the County Development Plan 2018-2024 (as varied).
