Green funeral takes place in Auckland

THE family of the Raphoe native and multi-millionaire businessman, Hugh Green (80), who was buried in New Zealand yesterday (Thursday) have spoken of the ‘unbelievable comfort and support’ they have had from his native Donegal and all over Ireland.

Over 1,200 people turned out at Christ the King Church, 260 Richardson Road, in the Auckland suburb of Owairka for his funeral yesterday. They included leaders of business, politics and the Irish community. The funeral was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, ever seen in Auckland.

His family have confirmed they will return to Donegal, at a time to be arranged, where they will spread some of his ashes on the Green family grave in Convoy which dates back to 1844.
