THERE was a great turnout for the first face-to-face annual New Year’s dip in aid of Gemma’s Legacy of Hope on Sunday.
Swimmers braved the cold water at the Keadue Blockyard at 1pm to raise funds for the community counselling service which covers the Rosses and Fintown areas.
The organisers thanked everyone who took part in the dip from near and far.
A total of €598.90 was collected at the event but those that still wish to donate can do so online: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/GemmasLegacy2023.
“Looking back at the data collected over the past 12 months we can now see that the service costs close to €70,000 per year and has to date been accessed by over 312 individuals who work or live in our community,” said a spokesperson for Gemma’s Legacy of Home.
“Sometimes we need reminding that asking
for help is never a sign of weakness. It’s one of the bravest things you can do and it can save a life.
“Gemma’s Legacy of Hope has been created to provide a support in times of need by our community – for our community.
“Please spread the word and let our community know that it is there to provide help whenever and how ever often our community require it.”
