Gorthahork community to host event in wake of recent tragedy

By Róise Collins

In the wake of the heart-breaking loss of two young men in Gorthahork, the local committee have organised an evening for the close-knit community to gather for healing and support.

Stronger Together which takes place tomorrow night (Friday, April 11) offers a space for those affected to come together, talk, listen and support one another through grief – both in the immediate aftermath and in the long run.

Local man Joseph Mangan who is involved with organising the event spoke to the Donegal News ahead of tomorrow night’s meeting.

“As a small community we have unfortunately had a number of tragic events in recent years and in recent months. People young and old are really hurting and something had to be done to help them,” he said.

He explained how there was a void for those impacted who wanted to get information or support.

“This event allows the community to come together and talk and hear about grief, what it involves and how it affects different people.”

“Just having that conversation is important to let people know they’re not alone going through this,” Mr Mangan added.

Members of Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal will be in attendance to share their lived experiences and offer advice on navigating grief.

They will also provide information on support services available to help during this challenging time.

Stronger Together, which has been organised in partnership with both the HSE and Jigsaw, will take place in Ostan Loch Altan on Friday, April 11 at 7pm.

Anyone impacted by the recent tragedy, family, friends, and members of the wider community who feel the weight of this loss, are welcome to attend.
