LETTERKENNY man Dale Gorman made his professional soccer debut on Tuesday night as he came on as a substitute for Stevenage FC in their Capital One League Cup defeat to Ipswich Town.

Gorman (19) was introduced at half-time for David McAllister at Portman Road and while he could not help his team progress to the next round, he did impress the travelling support.

Stevenage took the lead in the game through a Christopher Berra own goal, but Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town responded with goals from Josh Yorwerth and Jay Tabb to get the better of Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage.

Gorman – who comes from a well-known and highly-respected family in Donegal soccer circles – tried his luck with a long-distance effort late on, but he could not find the equaliser his team needed.

Gorman came up through the ranks with Glencar and Letterkenny Rovers’ youth sides, while he was also a mainstay in the Donegal Schoolboy 1996 select, before joining Stevenage in 2013.

The Northern Irish Youth International will look to build on his performance in the coming weeks and get more first-team action, as Stevenage attempt to get off to a good start in the Sky Bet League Two.
