THE county has been basking in last of the glorious summer sunshine this week and the good news is that it may be set to last.
Temperatures reached 24 degrees during the week as people flocked to the beaches making the most of the good weather before the end of the summer holidays and the return of school.
The good weather may last into next week with Met Eireann predicting dry days with very little rain lasting into early next week.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Met Eireann forecaster Gerry Murphy explained that ‘overall the weather looks dry and settled.’
He said, “On Wednesday, the highest temperatures were 23 degrees and we can expect more of the same today (Thursday).
“On Friday, the temperatures will drop back to about 19 to 21 degrees and looking to Saturday, similar temperatures but in the north, it is going to become cloudier in the evening.
“It should stay dry apart from the odd bit of drizzle but this will mean that the temperatures won’t be as high on Sunday and it should be around 16 to 18 degrees.
“In general, the best of the temperatures are today and then they start to drop back on Friday in the North.
“For the early part of next week, it should be dry with temperatures in the high teens. The overall picture is dry settled weather with good sunshine until Saturday but a bit cloudy over the weekend with temperatures at a maximum high of 20 degrees.
“It is a good news story,” said Gerry.
