AN 8.23 acre site in the centre of Letterkenny which went on the market last year at a price of €4m has been sold.
The site is located at High Road, behind the town’s fire station on De Valera Road.
Part of the site fronts on to the High Road, opposite Mac’s Mace, and part also runs along De Valera Road, opposite the Bernard McGlinchey Town Park.
The sale, which attracted a significant amount of interest, was overseen by local estate agent DNG Boyce Gallagher.
Mr Henry McCahey, director of Boyce Gallagher, told the Donegal News that the sale was by private treaty and he was not in a position to disclose details on the agreed sale price or the buyer.
“Given its location so close to the centre of the town, it’s no surprise that it prompted plenty of interest, not just around Ireland but abroad,” he said.
“It’s very good news for the town.”
It’s understood the buyer of the site is from Donegal and the land may be used for housing.
Back in 2004, planning permission was granted for the site for a development comprising six retail units, 190 apartments, 17 duplex units and 18 townhouses. The planning permission has since expired.
