Crana College student Matthew Stainsby featured in Irish Times for golfing success.
ONE of Crana College, Bucnrana, and North West’s young guns led the way in the local club’s championship this year.
The coveted Debonair matchplay trophy – which has been played at the Inishowen club since the 1890’s – was won this year in convincing style by Matthew Stainsby (14).
Matthew took several notable scalps along the way before beating the club’s “golfer of the year” Stewart McGinley 2 and 1 in the final.
Captain of Crana College’s golf team, Matthew got off to the best possible start by winning the first hole and after nine holes he was three up.
McGinley made a good attempt at a comeback but being two up with two to play Matthew who plays off a handicap of 8 parred the 17th hole to take victory.
