TONIGHT, the Town Hall doors will open for Ramelton’s 60th Pantomime.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears is the production chosen for this auspicious occasion.
The origins of the story are, as is often the case, lost in the mists of time, but it has evolved into the charming tale we all know and love.
A family of bears, Mother, Father and Baby Bear are given the gift of speech and song by the Forest Fairy, but when they are spotted by an evil Baron who is a circus owner, they are captured, mistreated and made to perform as circus attractions.
Thus, the scene is set for the traditional battle between Good and Evil. Spoiler alert! Good wins! Ahh!
If only the world would pay attention.
Tony Boyce, whose special effects have rightly garnered much praise over the years, might have the solution to the housing crisis when you see what he does for the bears!
John Harkin’s signature skills as a scenic designer will have great scope with the forest, the bears’ cottage and all the great colour of the circus.
The pantomime society is delighted to welcome back Eleanor Haughey who will be playing Robin Makepeace, the principal boy role.
This will be her fourth outing as a principal.
Due to commitments, Sarah Delap’s day as a principal had been delayed but finally, she is available and she is perfectly suited to play Goldilocks.

Sarah Delap plays the lead role of Goldilocks in this year’s Ramelton panto. Picture: Declan Dohertry.
Also returning is Margaret Hannon, star of TG4’s ‘Ros na Run’, playing the Forest Fairy.
James Friel will be transforming once more to the dame role, this time as Pricilla Clott.
This will be James’s 37th time as dame – surely a record!
The bears will be played by Maggie Durning, a former principal girl, Johnny Coonan, popular local singer and Roisin Toland as Baby Bear.
Roisin’s father was in the 2009 version.
Catriona McCafferty is Dame Jame’s daughter and ends up in some death-defying antics. You would expect nothing less of her!
The Baron will be Damien Duffy, fresh from his success with the Sam Cree play ‘Stop it Nurse’ which recently featured five of our cast.
Veteran pantomimer Martin Duffy and rising star Eoghan (no relation to the storm!) Boyce complete the cast as Ali and Oop, the Baron’s henchmen with pantomime stalwart Dermot Mills making a surprise cameo appearance.
Mickey McHugh, Ramelton’s own legend of comedy, will make a personal appearance.
The choreography will bear the trademark stamp of Gerald McFadden and Elaine Ferry.
The children’s scene has been in the capable hands of Shirley Boyce, Nicole Mc Daid and Aoife Proctor.
Joe Birney, cousin of the legendary Jim and Anna Birney, with Eilo Boyce, Michael Kinnear, Mick Geever and Christopher Birney have put their shoulders to the wheel to get the show on the road.
Musical Director, Ronan Doherty has written a special finale song for the occasion, ‘Sing with the Wind’, – not to be missed.
Jean Winston is the last link between the first pantomime in 1956 and this production.
