Glenswilly man set for Winning Streak this weekend

A bus driver from Donegal will be hoping to go on a Winning Streak of his own as he will appear on the National Lottery Winning Streak TV game show, on RTÉ One, this Saturday (23rd March).

When Donegal man, Mickey McDaid’s name was pulled out of the Winning Streak drum last weekend, he didn’t believe it. That was because he is one of four Mickey McDaid’s in the parish of Glenswilly. As well as that, he had no Winning Streak scratch card sent in that week, so he was sure this wasn’t him. That was until his wife, Lorna, informed him that she sent in a couple of cards that week and she put his name on one. Meanwhile, his phone never stopped ringing with friends and family looking to know was it him who was on a Winning Streak!

After a sleepless night of wondering has his luck come in, Mickey celebrated after receiving a phone call from National Lottery officials to confirm he was the Mickey McDaid in question!

Mickey is Glenswilly born and bred and has been married to Lorna for seven years and they have three children together. His Winning Streak could not have come at a better time as the couple are currently conducting a self-build of their dream home in Glenswilly. Mickey will be hoping for a spin of the wheel which will be very useful in speeding up the project.

A bus driver by trade, Mickey works with Patrick Gallagher Travel and mainly looks after school runs on his daily beat.

He will be supported in the audience in RTE by an excited Donegal crowd made up of friends and family, including his sister Marie and his sister-in-law, Geraldine McLaughlin, who plays for Donegal GAA football team. Geraldine’s sister, also a Donegal football star, Nicole McLaughlin, won’t be able to make it as she will be playing in a game versus Westmeath.

In his spare time, Mickey is a huge sports fan. He used to play for Glenswilly GAA as well as the local soccer club, Kilmacrennan Celtic. Nowadays he keeps fit by training in Letterkenny Kickboxing Club.

The Winning Streak National Lottery game show, co-presented by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy, will be broadcast this Saturday evening at the earlier-than-usual time of 19:10 on RTÉ One. The show features some perennial favorite games as well but also brand new games including Play or Pay, Roll for Riches, WinFall and Electric Dream – where one player will win an electric car worth €25,000.

As ever one of the lucky five players will get the chance to spin the wheel and win up to €500,000.  But this series a €100,000 segment will be added to the iconic Grand Prize Wheel every show if less than that was won in the previous show, improving players chances to win a massive prize.

A brand new-look Winning Streak scratch card is available in the 5,900 National Lottery retailers all over the country, where as well as the chance to appear on the Winning Streak TV game show if you  get three stars, players will also be in with a chance to win some great cash prizes up to €5,000. The odds for those who purchase a Winning Streak to win is 1 in 1.76 to win a cash or three star prize.  Players can also send their scratch card stubs into the National Lottery where each week, on the show, a player will be drawn as the winner of a Luxury Cruise for two valued at €5,000.
