Glenswilly GAA launches calendar to celebrate 40 years

Glenswilly GAA club will celebrate 40 years in 2022 and are planning a series of events throughout the year to mark the milestone. To kick off the celebrations, the committee has launched a new calendar which includes photographs from 1982 to 2021 with key highlights from social events, games, training and Scór competitions.

Speaking about the 40th year and launch of the 2022 calendar, club PRO, Pauline Carberry said: “The Glenswilly GAA club 40th anniversary will be a year-long event which will see various events, special games and innovative fundraising ideas come together. Our Glenswilly GAA 40 Year Anniversary calendar launches the celebrations, and we hope people will get behind us and support it. It will be widely available from local shops, service stations and from any committee member. A great last-minute Christmas gift that supports your local club!”

“We have been working hard behind the scenes on a calendar of events which we’ll be releasing in a few weeks’ time, but it was important for us to have something for everyone in the community. From family-fun days, school art competitions and BBQ’s to sporting and endurance events, Easter Egg trails and a gala dinner dance, it’s going to be a memorable year for Glenswilly GAA.”

Clg Gleann tSúilí was formed in 1982 and over the last four decades, the club has celebrated some major wins both on and off the field. “The club has had the privilege of celebrating many successes over the years and some of the most notable wins for Glenswilly was winning the Donegal Senior Football Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2016. Our ladies’ team have also had a tremendous few years at intermediate and junior championship level and we have also had some brilliant achievements at Scór. There is no doubt that one of the key highlights for Glenswilly GAA was in 2012 when Michael Murphy captained the Donegal GAA senior football team to their second All-Ireland victory, alongside fellow club team mates Neil Gallagher and Gary Mc Fadden. 2017 was another big year when Murphy traded places with Welsh rugby player Shane Williams for the AIB The Toughest Trade programme. Williams made his football debut with our senior team and we’re proud to see him still donning the Glenswilly colours at major events in the UK,” Carberry finished.

The Glenswilly GAA 40 Year Anniversary calendar costs €10 and all funds raised will go towards the development of the club. Calendars are available to purchase from local shops or from any committee member.
