Glenswilly flooding works to be completed ‘within two weeks’

DONEGAL County Council has confirmed that the ongoing works to solve the flooding issues in Glenswilly will be completed within two weeks.

Heavy rain on Sunday night once again resulted in further flooding on the road close to Glenswilly National School.

Responding to a query from the Donegal News, a spokesperson for the local authority said on Tuesday: “The Council are currently installing a 1200mm dia culvert, that will eliminate the current issues with respect to flooding experienced at Glenswilly. It is envisaged that the works will be completed within the fortnight.”

Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly moved to reassure residents that funding had been secured to deliver a permanent solution.

“The diggers, pipes and the men are on the ground,” he said.

“I myself am very confident that this will put an end to this flooding issue once and for all. I also want to thank all road users for their patience but a massive thanks must go to the residents and the local community for their patience and their support.

“This has taken way longer than it should have to no fault of my own and our team on the ground but I’m delighted to announce that we are now on the home straight to having this issue resolved once and for all.”
