Glenswilly finish strong to pull away from battling Downings

Glenswilly 1-17 Downings 1-9

Glenswilly powered on in the final 20 minutes to take the win against a battling Downings side in Páirc Naomh Columba.

The hosts had a great start and went five points up early on, helped by a Mark Bonner two-pointer, but a Ronan Gallagher penalty got the visitors back into it, with Bonner’s tally of four at the break helping his side into an 0-8 to 1-4 lead, Johnny McGroddy hitting three points for his side.

A McGroddy two point free put Maxi Curran’s side ahead but Glenswilly responded well with points from Pauric Devine and Reid Kelly, while Conor Kelly’s goal helped them go four clear.

McGroddy kicked another two point free to halves the deficit but four points from Shane Tinney and three from Daithi Gildea, including a two point free each, made sure the points stayed at home for Gary McDaid’s side.
