Glenfin will need a big performance from Stephen Carr.
IT’S been a case of déjà vu for Glenfin this season, but team manager Liam Breen is hoping they can kick-start their campaign with a derby win over Sean MacCumhaill’s this Sunday.
Glenfin made a slow start to 2017, and that led them down a slippery slope which could have seen them relegated to the third tier.
They managed to survive, and Breen was hoping that they would have been operating towards the top half of Division 2 in his second season in charge.
However, three defeats on the trot leaves them in eighth position ahead of this weekend’s game, although they do have a game in hand on most teams.
Their neighbours Sean MacCumhaill’s are joint-top and playing well, and they will be hoping to claim two valuable points and the local bragging rights when they make the short journey to Pairc Tabhoige on Sunday for the 3pm throw-in.
“It’s pretty much the exact same start as last year. We have won one game from four, which is what we had at this time last season as well,” Breen explained.
“I suppose the disappointing thing this year is that we got off to a great start by beating Glen in our first game.
“But then we lost to Four Masters, and we were very poor against St Naul’s the following week.
“We lost by a point in Malin last week, but at least we can take something from that as there was a decent performance.
“We struggled to get points on the board last year and it looks like it might be the same this year.
“We now face into our star games, and we have two derbies against MacCumhaill’s and two games each against Bundoran and Ardara.
“If we get four to six points from that we’ll be doing well. It’s tough because at the minute with injuries and exams, we can’t get our full team out but we have to be aiming to win our three home games from those six anyway, starting this Sunday.”
