Gleann Cholm Cille community to benefit from Uisce Éireann investment

UISCE Éireann’s determination to drive down leakage across Donegal continues apace, with improvement works getting underway in Gleann Cholm Cille.

Uisce Éireann has prioritised more than 300m of old water mains for replacement which will not only give homes and businesses in the areas more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.

Crews will be carrying out this important water main replacement project along the R230 and L5055 as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in Gleann Cholm Cille.

“This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive,” Ms Lowry said.

“We would like to thank customers in Gleann Cholm Cille in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these works.”

To deliver the works safely and efficiently, traffic lights will be in place while the works are underway.

Patricia continued: “We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community.

“These works are vital to ensure security of supply in Gleann Cholm Cille now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience.”

The project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

Farrans Construction are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann which are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
