LAGAN Harps manager Garry Gibson appreciates that the odds are stacked against his team but he’s hoping for a late twist in the First Division finale.
Lagan are third in the table, two points behind leaders Glenea, and one behind Donegal Town.
The Manor men do have the best goal difference, and could land the title if they win and the other two contenders draw.
Gibson’s side would be content if even one of the teams slipped up and they got promotion.
They’ll need a favour from elsewhere, but Gibson does feel Ballybofey and Castlefin will give their all in their respective games against Donegal Town and Glenea respectively.
“I have known PH (Bonar, Ballybofey manager) a long time and we worked together at underage when I was involved with East Donegal.
“I know him and the Ballybofey side and there will be nothing handy for Donegal Town.
“PH will go up there honest – I know that for a fact – and Castlefin will be the same.
“Every team will be going for it so there could be a twist alright.
“But I think the fact that the three of us are at home puts me off thinking there will be that twist.
“Teams have been beating each other all year so there could be a twist.
“We just have to concentrate on our own game and hopefully someone will be at the other grounds that will keep us informed.”
Lagan have won their last six matches and are confident as they prepare to host Gweedore United.
“We have gone on a good run there. We had a few very tough games.
“We won four away on the bounce – Lifford, Castlefin, Cappry and Donegal Town.
“We went up to Donegal Town and that was a massive result.
“We have been going well. We have been scoring a lot of goals and we’re not conceding many either.
“Young Kyle Martin that we signed from Ballyraine, I think he has 24 goals scored in all competitions.
“And our defence have been excellent. I failed to mention Brian Da Costa in a couple of interviews I’ve done this year, but he’s been brilliant.
“We have a very young team but they have started to learn how to win tight games.
“If there was another four or five games left, I’d have been very confident that we would catch anyone with the form we’re in.”
