It’s been a night of celebration for Sinn Fein in Donegal with two party candidates elected in Donegal.
Pearse Doherty’s election was confirmed after the first count as he passed the quota with over 6,000 votes to spare.
The second count saw the distribution of his quota and Padraig MacLochlainn received enough of Doherty’s transfers to take him over the quota and confirm his return to Dáil Eireann.
MacLochlainn was on 9,799 votes after the first count. He picked up 3,296 surplus votes to bring him to 13,095. The quota is 12,771.
The second count was declared at 1.45am after which Returning Officer Geraldine O’Connor called time on the count and adjourned proceedings until Sunday morning at 10am.
