COUNCILLOR Frank McBrearty’s outburst at yesterday’s election count has not just attracted the attention of the local media.
The ‘outspoken’ Raphoe publican took that term to a new level after it emerged he only managed to get three percent of the overall Donegal vote in his quest to get elected to the Dáil.
As the tallies came in, and after leaving the count centre, Cllr McBrearty took to Facebook to express his anger at the local electorate and ‘certain aspects’ of the media. It has since gone ‘viral’ on social media.
“The next bastard that comes to my door will know all about it,” he began.
“After helping over 8,000 people in seven years on the council this is how your (sic) rewarded. My vote is down everywhere. When my three years are up in the council – that’s it. The Donegal media had us as heroes when we exposed the garda corruption. Since I went into politics I have been vilified by certain aspects of the media.
“What next is the Fennelly Commission, exposing the Morris Tribunal, the re-opening of Richie Barron’s inquest and exposing the corruption in Donegal and I don’t need politics to do this, which I’m very good at.”
Cllr McBrearty went on to warn the media to be careful about what they write and say about him in future.
“The next person in the media who writes something wrong about me will be sued, I have enough of people in the media that think they can write what they like about me.”
He concluded by thanking all the “true supporters” that voted for him.
Later that night his son, Frankie, took to Facebook to declare he would “never vote again” as he also believes Donegal deserves “everything we get.”
“More pain and suffering for the country as it looks like the two biggest corrupt powers are going to be the new government.. Just want to say to my dad that I’m still proud of you and you didn’t get what you deserved, but that’s politics for ya.. Dirty and corrupt… Love you dad,” concluded young Frankie.
