GARDAI this morning (Monday) appealing for help from the public who may have been in the Termon area in the early hours of Monday morning and saw a dark saloon car which may have been involved in a break-in at Sweeney’s filling station.

The Great Gas filling station was broken into some time between 9 pm on Sunday night and 7.30 am on Monday morning. Considerable damage was caused and a sum of money taken.

According to Sgt Paul Wallace, Crime Prevention Officer this was no opportunistic crime but appears to have been planned as the alarm system had been interfered with.

“A saloon car was seen in the area around 5 am acting suspiciously on a side road going towards Lough Salt. The roads may have been slippery at that stage and they may have chosen a different route.

“There would appear to be similarities between this break-in and one last November in Lettermacaward. We would ask the public who may have seen this car or anything suspicious to get in touch on 91 53060 or the confidential line on 1800 666111,” Sgt Wallace said.

He again warned owners of businesses, particularly those in rural areas to step up their security measures.
