Gardai search for murder weapon in Letterkenny

Inspector Pat O’Donnell and Inspector Sean Grant appeal for information.

GARDAI in Letterkenny are widening their search for the murder weapon used to kill Sebastian Adamowicz at his home in Sylvan Park last Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference in Letterkenny Garda Station this afternoon Detective Inspector Pat O’ Donnell said the 36 year old sustained severe head injuries and a weapon was definitely used in the case.

Insp O’Donnell said: “For the search team yesterday the focus was on the house itself. They will radiate out from the house in all directions in a circular motion to look at hedgerows, wheelie bins, anything in the area where an item could be secreted.”

Mr Adamowicz was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on Thursday morning at Letterkenny University Hospital. The case was upgraded to a murder investigation after a post mortem was carried out by the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy.

Mr Adamowicz, who moved to Ireland in search of employment a number of years ago, was one of five polish nationals living in the house at the time. All four individuals, including Mr Adamowicz’s brother, have been interviewed and Gardai are now checking their alibis. Items from the house have been taken and will be tested by forensics.

Insp O’Donnell said an area of the house inside the front door was heavily bloodstained which was a focus for the forensic team. The family have travelled over from Poland and Insp O’Donnell said his parents are “obviously distraught”.

An incident room has been set up in Letterkenny Garda Station and a major trawl of CCTV from the surrounding area and on the route back into Letterkenny is underway.

Gardai are appealing to the public who may have further CCTV on dash cams or other outlets to come forward. They are also appealing for any witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the estate between 10am and 6pm last Wednesday to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 91 67100, or the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 11.
