A SERIES of short films tackling peer-on-peer violence have been launched by Chief Superintendent Goretti Sheridan in Letterkenny today.
The four short videos were created by The North Central Donegal Child and Family Support Network as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the impact adolescent peer-to-peer violence has on the community.
The #WeDontWantThis campaign also hopes to show the impact recording and sharing such incidents and spreading them on social media can have on young people’s health and well-being.
An Garda Síochána spokesperson said: “These short films address the growing number of peer-on-peer violent incidents that are taking place and how these incidents impact on all those involved and their families.
“The films also raise awareness of the increase in youth violence being recorded on mobile phones and then shared across social media platforms.”
The spokesperson went on to thank several people involved in the creation of the films, as well as those involved in the initiative.
They said: “Well done to all of the statutory and non-statutory agency members involved in the production of these clips and thank you for all of the work and time that was put into them.
“Well done also to Garda Patrick Mc Glynn (Juvenile Liaison Officer, Letterkenny and Garda Ross Mc Gahern who were both involved with this initiative.”
