A total of three drivers were charged with drink and drug driving offences on Saturday night alone.

One driver received a fixed charge penalty notice and will face a 3 month disqualification upon payment of same after they failed a roadside breath test.

Another tested positive for cocaine, cannabis and benzodiazepines in the Killygordon area. They are now awaiting further tests.

A driver was also arrested in Letterkenny on suspicion of drunk driving after they were observed driving erratically. The driver provided false details to Gardaí and the reason for doing so and their true identity was soon established.

A police spokesperson said: “Many lives are lost on the roads because of poor decisions when it comes to road safety and many families are left utterly devastated.

“Please do not ever drive while under the influence of alcohol/drugs as in doing so you would be risking your own life and the lives of all others you would meet.”
