GARDAÍ have issued a special car security appeal in light of a number of recent thefts from cars across the county.

The most recent incidents include a theft that occurred at the Parochial House in Doneyloop between 9pm on Tuesday, July 15 and 2pm on Thursday, July 17.

“A car that was parked near that location was entered and a set of keys and a small amount of cash were stolen from within. No damage was caused to the car,” a garda spokesperson said.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have observed any type of suspicious activity or vehicles/people in that area between those dates to make contact with gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071-9858530.

On Friday, an unlocked parked car at Ferris Lane, Buncrana was broken into and a set of headphones and a pair of sunglasses were stolen. The incident took place between 7.50pm and midnight.

If anyone observed suspicious activity in that area or if they can assist with relevant information, gardaí have asked them to contact Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540 or the Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111.

In light of these incidents gardaí have appealed to the public to try to park in a secure location if possible and always ensure that their car is locked.

“Do not leave anything worth stealing within sight and do not make the mistake of trying to hide your belongings within the car once you have parked up. You never know who is watching,” a garda spokesperson said.
