Gardai issue All-Ireland 2014 advice

GARDAI in Donegal have issued the following advice to people who are travelling to the All Ireland Final in Croke Park on Sunday 21st of September 2014.

Householders:
Householders are advised to let a trusted neighbour or family member know if you are travelling to Dublin for the all Ireland weekend. Ask them to keep a discreet check on your property whilst you are away.
Consider leaving a light on or radio playing, the use of time switches means that operating times may be controlled.
Burglars target CRAVED items (laptops jewellery cash) the rear of your home is the most vulnerable particularly between the hours of 5pm and 11pm.

Commenting Sgt. Paul Wallace Divisional Crime Prevention Officer for Donegal stated ; ‘People who are not travelling to Dublin over the weekend are asked to become proactive by keeping an eye out for strange vehicles in your area and in particular calling to the homes of older people or those living alone.
Simply noting the registration number and /or a description of the occupants and informing your local 24/7 garda service can prevent crime in your community’ He added.

Children and Young People:
Children and young persons should be advised on an agreed rendezvous location if they get split up from family or friends. Caution is advised in relation to mobiles, handbags and wallets. Remember the pick pockets will be about.

Road Safety:
As there will be an unprecedented number of people using the roads between Donegal and Dublin over the weekend. Remember to respect others using the road and Keep safe.
Switch off before you drive – You are 4 times more likely to crash using a mobile phone while driving. 1% reduction in speed = 2% minor injury collisions / 3% Fewer Serious Collisions / 4% fewer fatal collisions.

Parents – Ensure Children are using appropriate restraints.
Fatigue: Never ignore the signs of fatigue – the consequences can be fatal.
Never drink and drive/Always wear your seat belt.

Business Owners:
Are urged to review cash security procedures, ensure alarms and CCTV are operating correctly and check on premises out of business hours.
