GARDAÍ have issued a warning to motorists after two vehicles were broken into in Letterkenny over the weekend.
The incidents occurred on Friday, February 20, between 8.30pm and 9pm in the Drumany area of the town.
In both cases, the passenger-side windows of the cars were smashed and handbags left on the seats were stolen.
One of the stolen bags was a pink and white M&S handbag containing a black Michael Kors wallet, various documents and bank cards, along with a small sum of cash.
The second bag, a black Guess handbag, contained a card wallet, several bank and gift cards, and a set of car keys with a teddy bear keyring attached.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who travelled in the Drumany area between 8pm and 9.30pm on the night in question and who may have dash-cam footage to come forward. They are also urging anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area to make contact.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074-9167100 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
ADVICE
In light of the incidents, Gardaí are reminding motorists to take simple precautions to reduce the risk of theft.
Drivers are advised to park in well-lit areas where possible and to always ensure their vehicle is securely locked when left unattended, regardless of the location.
They are also urging people not to leave handbags, laptops, purses or other valuables on display inside their cars, as visible items can attract thieves.
Motorists are further cautioned against leaving valuables or large sums of money in their vehicles at any time.
Gardaí have also asked members of the public to remain vigilant and to report immediately any suspicious behaviour, such as individuals peering into car windows or attempting to open door handles.
