Gardai investigating Derry link to east Donegal ram raids

dnbreakingnews

GARDAI and the PSNI are trying to establish whether or not a jeep recovered in Derry was used in two ram raids in east Donegal overnight.

Just after midnight, a four-wheel-drive vehicle was rammed into the front of the Healthwise pharmacy in Newtowncunningham. Less than 20 minutes later, a similar incident occurred at Matt’s Takeaway in nearby Killea.

Entry was not gained to the pharmacy, however, a considerable amount of damage was caused to the shutter of the building.

In the Killea incident, the shutter was also rammed, the CCTV system was damaged and a till containing a small amount of cash was stolen from the premises. However, a small sum of money was recovered nearby later in the morning.

A spokesperson for Letterkenny Garda Station confirmed that the PSNI had recovered a jeep in Derry later in the morning and that one man had also been arrested.

Currently, both forces are trying to establish if they are connected to the Donegal incidents.
