GARDAÍ have urged road users in Donegal to “stop risking lives” and to “start acting responsibly” following a series of arrests at the weekend.
On Friday night, Gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit detected a car travelling at 131KPH in a 100KPH speed zone.
The car was stopped and the driver was then arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The driver will now receive a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice for the speeding offence (€160 fine & 3 penalty points) and will face a possible Court appearance.
Last night, a second arrest was made.
Gardaí from Letterkenny Garda Station arrested a driver on suspicion of drug driving after they tested positive for cocaine.
Further test results are now awaited.
Taking to social media today, Gardaí in Donegal said too many people are taking risks on the road and in doing so they are playing roulette with the lives of all other road users.
“It will be too late to change your ways when a tragedy does occur.
“Please don’t wait until it is too late,” the post concluded.
