GARDAI in Donegal are investigating a suspected needle spiking incident which occurred in Letterkenny.
The Gardai have confirmed they are investigated the incident incident which is believed to have occurred in Letterkenny on Sunday November 28, 2021.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said no arrests have yet been made and added that further information is not available at this time but an investigation is ongoing.
Suspected needle spiking incidents on the rise in Letterkenny as within the past two months several woman have claimed to have been injected during a night out.
Last week, Kerrie McGarrigle told the Donegal News that she was on a night out with her friend in Letterkenny last Sunday night but after a couple of hours, Kerrie blacked out and spent the early hours of Monday morning being violently sick.
After a couple of days, Kerrie was still experiencing a sore back and initially thought it was a kidney infection, but when she checked, she saw the dreaded needle mark at the bottom of her back.
Kerrie had to get a tetanus injection and had blood tests carried out. She also reported the incident to the guards.
Kerrie spoke out to raise awareness of needle spiking locally and advised people to stick with their friends during a night out.
An Garda Síochána are advising any victims of any form of alleged ‘drug spiking’ to come forward and report such incidents to local Gardaí.
A spokesperson said, “An Garda Síochána continues to engage with partner agencies (HSE, HPSC, HPRA) monitoring the current reporting of these matters for early warning of any identified patterns.
“Any incident of this type of crime (assault/ sexual assault) including those with evidence to suggest a link with ‘spiking’ will be investigated by either local Gardaí supported by or attached to Divisional Proactive Services Units.”
