GARDAÍ have arrested a man in connection with the rape of a woman in her Letterkenny home last month.
Following the attack on Sunday, October 23, an extensive and exhaustive investigation was launched, resulting in a man in his 20s being arrested yesterday.
The man, who is from County Donegal, was brought to Letterkenny Garda Station.
He was detained for 24 hours before being released this afternoon, a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The guard leading the investigation, Inspector Goretti Sheridan, praised her colleagues while also taking the opportunity to thank members of the public for their assistance.
It is understood local Gardaí have combed through hours of CCTV footage from around the centre of Letterkenny as well as routes in and out of the town in a bid to identity the attacker.
Checkpoints were also set up in the area after the attack, in an attempt to jog peoples’ memories.
