GARDAI have appealed for witnesses as part of their probe into the suspicious death of a Churchill man.
At press conference on Tuesday, Garda Inspector Michael Harrison, said following a post mortem by State Pathologist Marie Cassidy on Monday, a ‘full investigation’ was underway into the circumstances surrounding the death of 50 years-old, Kieran Callaghan from Roshine, Churchill.
The body of Mr Callaghan, a father of four, was found at his home on Sunday afternoon. He had suffered head injuries. Speaking to the media on Tuesday in Letterkenny, Inspector Harrison said they were not yet releasing the findings of the post mortem.
“For operational reasons we are not releasing the results of the post mortem, but we are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances,” Inspector Harrison said.
“We are appealing for witnesses, anybody who may have met, spoken or seen Mr Callaghan between July 4 and July 8 or seen anything suspicious in the Churchill area to contact Garda in Milford at 074-91-53060,” he added
Inspector Harrison said Mr Callaghan, was well known in the Churchill community and was an employee of Glenveagh National Park.
“We’re appealing for anybody with information to contact us,” he added.
Mr Callaghan was last seen in the Churchill area at about 6pm last Friday. He is described as being 5’10” with grey hair and of thin build. Anyone with information is asked to contact Milford garda station on 074-9153060 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
The incident is the second suspicious death in the area in 13 months, after pensioner Seamus Doherty was found dead at his home at Drumacanoo, Churchill, on June 16 last year.
