AN investigation has been launched by An Garda Síochána and Tusla following an alleged incident in a pre-school in Donegal which resulted in the injury of a young child.
The details of the incident have not been disclosed. However, gardaí confirmed they are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries.
“Gardaí in the north west are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding injuries sustained by a young child at a childcare facility,” a garda spokesperson said.
“An Garda Síochána is also engaging with other relevant statutory authorities,” they added.
The Donegal County Childcare Committee confirmed that they are also aware of the alleged incident which took place last week.
“As this is under investigation by An Garda Síochána and Tusla, it is not appropriate to comment any further at this time,” a spokesperson for the organisation told the Donegal News.
A spokesperson for Tusla, said the Child and Family Agency do not comment on individual cases in order to protect the privacy of the children and families they work with.
They explained that all referrals received by Tusla are screened and assessed in line with Children First – National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children.
“Where an incident or incidents involve a creche, Tusla’s Early Years Inspectorate may further assess and inspect the service and/or issue enforcement actions, as required,” the spokesperson added.
