We asked for a breakdown of the nature of complaints, such as neglect of duty, non-fatal offences and abuse of authority.

A GSOC spokesperson said this detail could not be provided at this time, as the independent statutory body is in the process of compiling data for the 2023 GSOC annual report, which will be released this spring.

As such, the spokesperson said figures provided should be “treated as indicative only” and “do not represent official, published, statistical information from GSOC”.

In 2022, GSOC received 114 allegations against gardai in Donegal Division.

The figures were obtained by this newspaper through a Freedom of Information request.

The FOI also revealed 68 complaints were also lodged with GSOC in 2022.

Thirty-eight complaints were found admissible/part admissible, while 30 complaints were inadmissible.
