Garda warning ahead of Bank Holiday weekend

GARDAÍ will be ramping up high visibility checkpoints across Donegal Division this St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend.

They are urging motorists to drive safely, reminding them that 11 per cent of driving collisions happen the morning after a night out.

A garda spokesperson said: “Plan ahead if you intend to go socialising over the weekend. Arrange a lift home in advance of your night out, have a designated driver or get a taxi. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“Please ensure that you are in a fit state to drive the morning after socialising also before doing so. Eleven per cent of fatal drink driving collisions happen the morning after.

“Slow down and wear your seatbelt. Leave your mobile phone well out of reach when driving. Never take unnecessary risks on the roads.

“We hope that everyone has an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend. Stay safe both on and off the roads”.
