Garda killed when hit by car travelling at 150kmh

AN INQUEST has found that a young garda was unlawfully killed in the line of duty when his marked patrol vehicle was in a head on collision over three years ago.
Tuesday’s inquest into the death of Garda Gary McLoughlin of Foxfield, Fenagh, Co Leitrim heard the marked parked patrol car he was driving was hit at ‘phenomenal speed’ by an oncoming vehicle driving on the incorrect side of the road.
Garda McLoughlin died as a result of multiple injuries sustained when his car was hit by an Vauxhall Astra driven by Martin McDermott, formerly of Castlegrove, Raphoe, at a speed of over 150kmh at Lisfannon, Burt in the early hours of Sunday, December 13, 2009.
