FOUR men are being detained by gardai after an unmarked patrol car was rammed on Wednesday.
Gardai investigating a spate of crime in East Donegal have confirmed the four men are from Northern Ireland and are being held in Letterkenny and Milford Garda Stations.
The operation took place in the Castlefin-Donneyloop area around 12.30p.m at the same time there was reports of police activity at the near-by border crossing with Clady.
There has been a spate of burglaries and suspicious approaches to homes in recent days with a silver Mercedes said to be of particular interest to gardai.
“The vehicle was travelling at high speed when it was encountered by gardai,” a garda source said.
It is understood a vehicle matching that description was that which gardai intercepted.
Local County Councillor Gerry Crawford said it has yet to be confirmed if this afternoon’s incident is directly related to recent reports of suspicious activity in the area.
