Gaoth Dobhair 1-12 Termon 1-11
GAOTH Dobhair were crowned Northern Board Division 1 Minor champions after they saw off Termon in a tight struggle after extra-time at Convoy tonight.
Trevor Alcorn’s Termon were reliant on placed balls in the first half but they still led by a point at the break with Stephen Black in great form.
Gaoth Dobhair kept battling in the second half, and they got the score back to eight points apiece heading into the final ten minutes.
A big moment in the match then arrived when Termon full-forward Brian McDaid – who has recently moved to Ireland to go to college – scored a fine goal.
However, the Magheragallon side didn’t cave in and a brace of points from Eoin de Búrca and a free from Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride sent the game to extra-time.
The sides swapped a point apiece in the first half of additional time, with Jack Alcorn scoring a free for Termon, while Micheál Ó Dochartaigh was on the mark for Gaoth Dobhair.
The Magheragallon men pushed ahead when substitute Aidan Griffin hit the net in the 72nd minute.
Stephen Black replied with two points for Termon, but they couldn’t find a leveller and their season is now over.
Gaoth Dobhair advance to the county stage, along with the Inishowen and Southern Board champions.
