Gaoth Dobhair native Joseph Mac Aoidh joins Nuacht Cúla4

Gaoth Dobhair native Joseph Mac Aoidh joins Nuacht Cúla4 today as a new presenter. Nuacht Cúla4 is a daily six-minute news bulletin especially for children from Tuesday to Friday at 1:30pm on the new Cúla4 channel.

Joseph (23) attended Scoil Adhamhnáin Naofa national school and Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair secondary school before going to Queen’s University, Belfast to study law. He is very interested in news, current affairs and politics. Last year Joseph spent six months on an internship with Nuacht TG4 and Raidió na Gaeltachta in 2023.

Joseph loves sport! He is a big soccer fan and plays soccer with Gaoth Dobhair Celtics. He also plays football with Gaoth Dobhair GAA. What he loves most about Donegal is the beautiful scenery, he enjoys running and walking on the beautiful beaches in his home area. He has a keen interest in reading about history and politics and listening to traditional music.

He joins presenter and journalist Seán Ó Maoilchiaráin on Nuacht Cúla4. Seán is from Annacotty, Co. Limerick. He attended Lisnagry National School and Castletroy College. He earned his undergraduate degree in Irish and History from University of Limerick. He is currently studying for a masters degree in the University of Galway in ‘Cleachtas Gairmiúl sna Meáin’ (Journalism and Broadcasting as Gaeilge). Despite Irish not being his first language, it is one of his big passions as well as sport (especially rugby) music and food. 

Nuacht Cúla4 is produced by Fíbín Media who are located next door to TG4 in Co. Galway. 

Schools can tune in to watch Nuacht Cúla4 live and also keep up to date with the news of the day online from their classrooms or on catchup on the Cúla4 player at cula4.com.

The dedicated Irish language channel for children Cúla4 was launched last September by Minister Catherine Martin and airs for 14 hours a day from 6am every morning until 8pm every evening. It is available on Saorview – Channel 18, Channel 602 on Virgin Media, Sky 624 and Eir will all carry the young people’s channel, and online via the Cúla4 and TG4 Player cula4.com and the Cúla4 App.
