Gaoth Dobhair back to business

IT’S been a wonderful fortnight for the Gaoth Dobhair club, but it’s back to business this Sunday when they take on Erin’s Own, Cargin in the Ulster Senior Club Championship quarter-final at Corrigan Park, Belfast.

Gaoth Dobhair landed the Dr Maguire Cup for the first time in 12 years two weeks ago, and team manager Mervyn O’Donnell said they certainly enjoyed the celebrations.

However, the partying has now been parked and they are gearing up for a tricky test against the Antrim champions (throw-in, 2.30pm).

O’Donnell said: “We had a great few days. There’s an awful lot of work and time that goes into it, so you have to enjoy it when you win the championship.

“I enjoy the craic as much as anyone and we had our fun for a couple of days.

“It can’t be a serious atmosphere all the time, and we all enjoyed the bit of banter.

“But we were back training on the Thursday night, and we had a good weekend of training when all the lads were home.

“There’s no real need to worry about fitness at this time of the season, it’s more working on our defensive structure and attacking plays and so on.

“The lads are all focussed, and we know we have a potential banana skin game against a very experienced side.”
