GALWAY FC manager Tommy Dunne has high hopes for midfielder Shane McGinty, who has put pen to paper with the western club.
The 19-year old St Johnston man played for Finn Harps during the second half of last season, having previously been on the books of Sligo Rovers.
McGinty had initially been with Harps in the 2012 season before joining the Bit O’Red.
McGinty is attending the FAI FÁS course in Castlebar under Leo Tierney’s direction – and Dunne believes the stylish midfielder can be a real asset at Eamonn Deacy Park in 2014.
“Leo has kept a close eye on him and we feel that he can make further progress during the season,” Dunne said.
“He will fit into the style of football we want to play at this club and I feel that he has something to offer.”
McGinty, a nephew of former Finn Harps star Maurice Toland, was invited on a trial with Galway FC, who have re-entered the League of Ireland following the withdrawal of Salthill Devon and Mervue United.
Last Thursday night he scored in a friendly win over Mervue and Dunne has been impressed.
“He is a tidy player,” Dunne added.
“Due to the fact that he arrived into the club late in pre-season he mightn’t feature for us for a while, but he has some potential.”
