Gallen expects the action to heat up from now on

DONEGAL star Oisin Gallen is delighted to have the Ulster Championship ticked off but he expects the season to heat up when they make their All-Ireland SFC Group 1 bow against Tyrone this evening.

There was a surprise in the opening fixture as Cavan stunned Mayo in Castlebar and that adds extra intrigue to the group.

Donegal come into the match in good form but Tyrone are well-rested after a four-week break.

Gallen is eagerly anticipating a large crowd at his home club ground of MacCumhaill Park and there should be a good buzz at the match, which will be streamed on GAA+.

The corner-forward has been impressed with what he has seen from Tyrone so far this year.

“There will be a great atmosphere and we’re looking forward to it. We have Tyrone, Cavan, and Mayo and none of them will be easy games.

“You want to get yourself in a really good position to attack the latter stages of the season now.

“Tyrone should have beat Armagh in the Ulster semi-final so you’re not going to get anything easy there.

“The Ulster Championship is ticked off now but it heats up even more from now.”

Gallen didn’t feature in the final two games of the National Football League and was then used off the bench in the first two Ulster Championship outings.

However, he won his place back and kicked four points from play in the Ulster Final win over Armagh.

He then had to come off in normal time as he started to cramp and is hoping his body will permit him to stay on the pitch for longer going forward.

“I’m feeling great.

“Throughout the league, it was tough with a few wee things here and there and you’re not playing as well as you want to be or should be.

“I got injured at the end of the league but that actually helped me get a lot of things cleared up.

“I’ve been feeling great since but I would just like to be seeing out games instead of cramping up.

“I’m just trying to build up the legs and do everything I can to try and get that extra five or ten minutes in every match.”
