A TASTE for Donegal bread in north America is to result in the creation of at least 70 new jobs at Gallagher’s bakery in Ardara over the next three years.
The company, which employs 300 people, revealed to the Donegal News this week that it has secured a multi-million euro contract which will bring their gluten free breads to up to 10,000 outlets in America and Canada in the New Year.
With work on a €2.5 million expansion to their Cashel site due to get underway in the coming months, it’s a remarkable success story for a company which found itself on the brink five years ago.
The company already ships gluten free bread to more than 1,000 stores in Australia while, earlier this year, it started to supply M&S and Sainbury’s in the UK, with additional products available on shelf in November.
