Roscommon have been the surprise package of Division 1 this year, and sit alongside Donegal on six points ahead of today’s match in O’Donnell Park.

They did what Donegal could not do last week and were one-point winners in the Kingdom, while they were convincing victors against both Cork and Down.

Donegal manager Rory Gallagher says he wasn’t shocked to see Fergal O’Donnell and Kevin McStay’s team start the year so well, and he’s looking forward to locking horns with them this weekend.

“I wasn’t surprised to be honest. I think by Kevin McStay’s own admission, they were placing big emphasis on trying to retain their Division 1 status, and they probably have a lot more work done than most of the other teams.

“They have been in two All-Ireland under 21 finals and they have a lot of talent coming through, and they’re starting to garner that together.

“They have three wins, and they probably should have had four from four, if it wasn’t for Monaghan hitting them with a late goal.

“They’re not a team that we would have come up against recently, so there will be a freshness to the game.”
